    This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Office of the Principal Legal Advisor, Los Angeles, California.



    Responsibilities

    • Receives, opens, reads, and presorts incoming materials and mail into appropriate categories
    • Performs various clerical duties such as sorting bulk mail from post office and other mail handling tasks
    • Enters, tracks and retrieves information using a database management system
    • Determines whether files should be consolidated, archived, or merged

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications:

    GS-04: Applicants must meet one of the following options to qualify for this position:

    • At least one year of generalized experience that included experience such as: Responding to customers’ inquiries; operating office equipment (e.g., scanners, shredders, and fax and copy machines) and preparing files for retention and disposition. OR
    • Successful completion of 2 years of education above the high school level. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university. OR
    • You have less the amount of the required experience (52 weeks) and education (120 semester hours) above but when combined, your percentages total to at least 100%.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    GS-05: Applicants must meet one of the following options to qualify for this position:

    • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 level in the Federal service that included experience such as: processing (e.g.,sorting, routing, bundling, certifying, date stamping) incoming and outgoing mail and/or materials for an organization; entering and tracking data using an automated or database system; and managing, maintaining and organizing files and information according to established agency policies and procedures. OR
    • Successful completion of 4 years of education above the high school level. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university. OR
    • You have less the amount of the required experience (52 weeks) and education (120 semester hours) above but when combined, your percentages total to at least 100%.

    Applicants must possess the Typing Requirement to be qualified for this position.

    You must be able to type at least 40 words per minute based on a five minute sample with three or fewer errors. You are self-certifying that you possess this typing requirement.
